In the wake of Matt Kepnes’s updated version of How to Travel the World on $75 a Day, I’m doing a budget travel book review of his iconic budget travel bible How to Travel the World on $50 a Day: Travel Cheaper, Longer, Smarter. The original book changed my life and the way I travel.

Millions of Solo Travelers Have Traveled the World on A Budget

How could I possibly do this? I knew it would be a year-long adventure, and I wasn’t wealthy. I had some savings, but not enough to retire and ride off into the sunset. Backpackers taking gap years before heading off to university travel the world on tight budgets, living the dream. If they can do it, there must be a way for an empty nester like me to do the same. I stumbled upon a book called “How to Travel the World on $50 a Day,” which has become a backpacker’s solo travel bible. This book changed my approach to travel and, more importantly, my life.
