My travel vlogging equipment set up

One thing that is going to keep me busy as I travel the world is vlogging and sharing my videos on Youtube. As a rookie Youtuber I am learning the basics so I can hit the ground running. I’m going to share my travel vlogging equipment set up I’m using to travel the world.

What does my setup look like?

I have decided the iPhone 13 Pro Max will be my main piece of video equipment to capture my journey. As a backup, I’m carrying my iPhone 11 for when I am in sketchy areas where iPhone thieves frequent. I also have a GoPro, which did the job on my trip to Thailand and is compact, which makes it difficult to steal. These devices all offer quality, high-definition video and make for great YouTube and social media reel viewing.

How do I mount the video equipment? I have 2 tripods that also serve as a vlogging stick, one for the iPhones and one for the GoPro. To be a pro, you need a tripod mount that holds accessories such as lighting and microphones. I have 2 methods to do this: one that’s a small gadget from Woohoto that attaches to the tripod and a cage from Small Rig that acts as an iPhone carrying case. The cage is really cool as it’s always ready to go. All I need to worry about is packing a microphone, light and vlog stick, and we’re good.

Finishing off the setup

Sound

Sound is important to bring a professional, clear sound, and surprisingly, it’s quite cost-effective. The sound on my equipment is good, but you need to make sure you have a crisp, clear sound when vlogging. I have 2 ways to do this, one is a microphone by SmallRig that attaches to my iPhone mounts and includes outdoor wind and noise proof covers. The second microphone is a lapel microphone from Purple Panda that attaches to my clothes and makes the sound clearer even from a distance. If you are buying a purple panda for your iPhone, keep in mind that you will need a Lightning to 3.5mm headphone adapter. As an added bonus, this sound setup makes me look like a pro even though I am far from it. I also have a backup mic from Sairen that doesn’t require any adapters.

Lighting

Another important add-on is an additional light. For this, I purchased a light smaller than the size of a credit card that attaches to the mounts or case. It’s amazing what proper lighting does and how it improves the video quality. Proper lighting is a necessity to be a YouTuber, and the light I purchased from Vijim works great.
