Some of the best restaurant finds while traveling happen by chance, and Banana Burger in Granada, Nicaragua, was no exception. During my stay at what I would call Granada’s top hostel, De Boca en Boca, I met some friends who were on their way to a restaurant renowned for serving Granada’s best burger. I had no idea where they were headed, but I’m always up for an adventure, especially at lunchtime. This lunchtime adventure would lead us to the famous Banana Burger, one of the top restaurants in Granada, Nicaragua.
The Restaurant Is Actually Called Tostometro
Banana Burger is located inside Tostometro, the restaurant’s official name. This can be somewhat confusing, but a visible Banana Burger sign is located out front. It’s located next to the main entrance of the Mercado; head towards the market, and you can’t miss it.
The Restaurants Vibe
The restaurant itself had a rustic vibe and felt somewhat unfinished. It had cement floors and imperfect, colourful walls, yet it was clean. Honestly, it was on par with other restaurants I’ve been to in Nicaragua. You feel like you’re in Nicaragua; it has that vibe, especially with the bright colours.
As you walk in, the kitchen area is the first thing you notice on the left. It is stocked with fresh produce, and you can watch the cooks preparing your meal, which adds to the experience. Our group was seated at the back, which was like a semi-private room with the mercado right behind us.
Granada, Nicaragua’s Best Burger – The World Famous Banana Burger
Due to the hype surrounding the “Banana Burger” as one of the top restaurants in Granada, Nicaragua, we were all eager to try it. The moment arrived, and the waiter came in with the famous Banana Burger, which was enormous! I should clarify that it’s not actually a banana burger but a plantain burger. Throughout my travels, I have learned that these fruits are not the same.
The burger itself featured a massive hunk of beef nestled between two plantain buns. Make sure you’re hungry so you can finish this masterpiece. The Banana Burger is the best burger I’ve ever had in my life, and it easily ranks among the top five meals I’ve experienced while travelling the world. The presentation was next level too, with a delicious avocado sauce drizzled on the plate for dipping. The burger was garnished with fresh herbs and chunks of grilled vegetables, including green peppers and eggplant. I’m telling you, the Banana Burger is a party in your mouth like you’ve never experienced.

If you’re planning a trip to Granada, Nicaragua, and looking for restaurants to visit, be sure to add Banana Burger to your itinerary. I recommend spending a few hours shopping at the mercado, then heading over to Tostometro for a Banana Burger. It makes for a perfect day in Granada, especially if you love markets and epic burgers like I do. Don’t miss out on Banana Burger; it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
